Story[edit | edit source]

After Marle's Pendant opens a Gate when she tests Lucca's Telepod, Crono and Lucca travel to 600 AD to rescue her. After she is mistaken for Queen Leene, and eventually disappears due to the grandfather paradox, the party rescues her ancestor to restore order to the Present. When Crono, Marle, and Lucca return to their original time period, they discover that King Guardia XXXIII reported Marle missing and gathers a search party. When Crono escorts her back to the castle, soldiers, at the will of the Chancellor, apprehend Crono and put him on trial, facing kidnapping charges. The Judge serves as the traditional judicial position along with Pierre as the defending lawyer and the Chancellor as the prosecutor.

Later, King of Guardia XXXIII is placed on trial regarding the existence of the Rainbow Shell. The Chancellor reads an ancestral will that states that the King should have unveiled "the Rainbow Shell to the people at the Millennial Fair, that they might enjoy the blessing of our royal treasure." The King however insists that no ancient heirlooms are in the castle. The Chancellor then says that the King is refusing to show the court a glimpse of the Rainbow Shell because he no longer owns it as he sold it for "no reason other than his own greed". Marle recovers a shard of the mystical cochlear shell to prove his innocence.
