Singing Mountain (Location)
The final chamber at the summit of Singing Mountain
|SNES/PlayStation name||Chanting Mt|
|Music played||Singing Mountain|
Singing Mountain (歌う山 utau yama?) was a location scheduled to appear in the Prehistoric era of Chrono Trigger. The area was cut from the original game. A song of the same name served as the theme for the area. According to the data files present in Chrono Trigger and its prototype, it can be ascertained that Singing Mountain was intended to be explored after the battle with Magus at Fiendlord's Keep. The area featured geography and graphics similar to Mystic Mountains. Inside the mountain, a cave with rivers of lava was featured. While its purpose remains unknown, it was eventually overwritten by the Black Omen, which, ironically, does not appear in Prehistory. Some speculate the location was to appear in the mountainous region East of Tyranno Lair. The only remnants of the Singing Mountain in the final game are its music track and a overworld map pointer for the location “Chanting Mt" (in the SNES version) or “Singing Mountain” (in the Japanese version). During an interview, Yasunori Mitsuda said this about Singing Mountain and its accompanied music:
There was a dungeon where that song was used, but because the dungeon didn't contain much and there were no problems or anything that advanced the game, it was cut. So inevitably the song was cut with it (*sniffle*). About Frog's Theme, because the prelude was meant to rise up during an event, the song starts out partway through, but since we took great pains with the CD it started from the prelude there.
