The Shadow Cat is an enemy fought in Chrono Cross when the party returns to Another World. At Viper Manor, Lynx appears as a Shadow Cat, after the party has battled his phantom form. Shadow Cats take on the appearance of black-colored felines with glowing, yellow-colored eyes. The tips of their tails are a flaming-orange in color, and their legs appear to melt into a shadow pool on the ground.
Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]
Shadow Cats perform a Black Tech called Shadow, when battled. The tech allows Shadow Cats to merge with surrounding shadows and lunge forth, creating a surprise attack on the designated foe. Immune to nothing, Shadow Cats are best attacked with White magically-based offensive Elements, such as MeteorShower or PhotonBeam. MeteorShower is best for Shadow Cats appearing in groups, as the Element damages multiple targets for smaller portions of damage, while PhotonBeam is advantageous against single opponents, dealing large amounts of damage to a single target. Given that Shadow Cats have slightly lower Magic Defense than Physical Defense, Serge's Tech Dash&Slash may do slightly less damage than a properly direction magical Element. His Luminaire Tech, however, is lethal to Shadow Cats, both in clusters or fighting singularly.
When the field color is completely Black, Shadow Cats will cast the MotherShip summoning element. It is hence recommended for the player to set out the ↓MotherShip trap as soon as possible at the start of the battle with these denizens of the underworld.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
Here, the usage of the name Shadow Cat appears to be literal. The enemy is a cat constructive of dark material or shadows. Alternatively, may refer to the X-men team member, Kitty Pryde, whose nickname is "Shadow Cat".
