The Cytoplasm is an enemy appearing in Chrono Cross. Cytoplasts are blue in color, and appear as simple orbs floating in the air. Found solely in Terra Tower, Cytoplasts are never known to travel alone, and are, instead, always accompanied by a TerraTerror and an Ectoplasm.

Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]

As mentioned earlier, Cytoplasts are always accompanied by one TerraTerror and one Ectoplasm. They will usually appear in battle, alongside an Ectoplasm, with the TerraTerror. On infrequent occasions, however, the TerraTerror may appear alone, and has the ability to 'give birth' to both a Cytoplasm and Ectoplasm by allowing them to slide out of its body. Cytoplasts are incapable of inflicting physical attacks, and instead use offensive Blue elements, such as AquaBall and IceBlast as their main form of attack instead. They have the ability to use CurePlus as well, which they use fairly frequently on the TerraTerror to ensure that it does not run out of HP. Cytoplasts also possess a unique tech which they share with the Ectoplasm, which is that of Plasmabeam. They will only use Plasmabeam when the TerraTerror falls in battle, which has the potential to inflict heavy amounts of damage.

Name Origin[edit | edit source]

The cytoplasm is a small gel-like substance residing between the cell membrane holding all the cell's internal sub-structures (called organelles), except for the nucleus. In this case, the Cytoplasm enemy is originally a vital cell of the TerraTerror before it is squeezed out into battle. As such, the name is a befitting one.

The Japanese name of the Cytoplasm, NaCl, in Chemistry terms, simply means Sodium Chloride. Sodium chloride is the salt most responsible for the extracellular fluid of many multicellular organisms. As the Cytoplasm's innate color is blue, this hints that it may actually have been the 'extracellular fluid' of the TerraTerror before being squeezed out of said enemy's body to battle.
