The Gobledygook is an enemy appearing in Chrono Cross. Anatomically resembling the traditional bat, these purple-skinned and winged creatures are identical in appearence to Alphabat, with which they are often confused. Googhoul, a stronger version of Gobledygook, is a yellow-colored cyborg in the shape of a bat. Gobledygooks can be trapped in the Forget-Me-Not Pot and added to the pool of Doppelgangs performed by Sprigg.

First encounted in Viper Manor Bluffs when Guile leads Serge into Viper Manor in search of the Frozen Flame, Gobledygook hover along the cliff ledges in pairs. Once inside the Manor, a pair of Gobledygooks accompanies WillO'Wisps.

Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]

Gobledygooks usually appear in twos, but may appear in threes or fours. In the Viper Manor Bluffs, they sometimes accompany Loch Nests when said enemies leap out at the party and engage them in battle. As afore-mentioned, they will also accompany WillO'Wisps in battle in the interior of the Viper Manor. A Gobledygook may be fought, alongside a Spearfisher and a Cybot, in the second round of the Grand Slam tournament. Gobledygooks attack either by hurling their bodies at their foes for mediocre amounts of damage, or using various Red elements such as MagmaBomb and FirePillar. When they are low on HP, they will tend to utilize their special tech, SuckBlood fairly frequently as well.

Name Origin[edit | edit source]

Gobbledygook or gobbledegook (sometimes gobbledegoo) is any text containing jargon or especially convoluted English that results in it being excessively hard to understand or even incomprehensible. In this case, the Gobledygook has this constant bewildered look on its face, which suggests that it might not be able to comprehend many of the goings-on around it. As such, the name is a befitting one.
