SchoolMates are enemies fought in Chrono Cross. SchoolMates are basically a group of at least seventeen vibrant-colored fish which work together to defend themselves from their foes in El Nido Triangle. Each individual fish is purple in color with yellow stripes covering its body.
Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]
SchoolMates usually appear in ones or twos when encountered in battle. They attack by first arranging each individual member in a straight line before swimming forward with a start and gracefully crashing through selected targets for fairly heavy amounts of damage. They are known to use Blue elements such as CureAll occasionally when they are low on HP, and are not known to use any offensive elements of any sort. On the whole, SchoolMates may pose some challenge to the under-prepared, as their relatively high strengths and defenses will prove to be an annoyance. Red offensive elements are thus advised to be used against them to take them out quickly.
Name Origin[edit | edit source]
The name of this enemy, SchoolMates, is a play on the fact that fishes in real life generally travel in small groups, which are better known as schools. As the fish in these schools generally rely on one another for protection, they can thus be considered "mates" of sorts.
The Japanese name of this enemy, Tropics, is a pun on the fact that SchoolMates are designed to resemble fish found in tropical waters, which are generally vibrantly-colored.
