Lightning II (サンダガ sandaga "Thundaga"?) (also known as Lightning 2 in the SNES/PS version) is Crono's 5th-level Tech in Chrono Trigger. It is also one of the spells that Magus starts with when he joins the party.
Description[edit | edit source]
When cast, several beams of yellow light radiate from the caster, between the beams are strands of static discharge.
Damage calculations[edit | edit source]
For Chrono: Damage = (Level + Magic) * 14 * 3.2 * (1 - Enemy's Magic Defense/102.4) / Enemy's Elemental Defense + Random Range
For Magus: Damage = (Level + Magic) * 18 * 3.2 * (1 - Enemy's Magic Defense/102.4) / Enemy's Elemental Defense + Random Range
Strategy[edit | edit source]
When fighting Magus in Fiendlord's Keep, he casts this spell, leaving him vulnerable to Light-element Techs, such as Lightning II, using this Tech on him will result in extra damage. Additionally, when fighting dinosaur enemies in Prehistory, such as Aecytosaur or Nizbel, Lightning II causes them to lower their Defense, leaving them vulnerable to physical blows. These creatures are tough to defeat otherwise.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The Japanese name of this tech, サンダガ "Thundaga", is the same as the third lightning elemental magic spell in the Final Fantasy series.

Lightning II can also be used by certain magical enemies (particularly bosses). Additionally, Magus the Boss uses Lightning II. If a Light tech is used on Nizbel, he can release an Electric Discharge which is functionally the same as Lightning II.
