Lightning (サンダー sandā "Thunder"?) is a tech in Chrono Trigger. It is Crono's 3rd-level Tech and his first magic one. While this tech strikes one only enemy, it can be extremely useful against the Reptites in Prehistory as well as in the boss fight against Magus in Fiendlord's Keep.

Description[edit | edit source]

Crono raises his arms, the wind ruffling his clothes, small golden sparks floating up from him into the sky. The screen goes suddenly dark as a bolt of lightning shoots out of the sky and strikes the target.

Acquiring[edit | edit source]

Unlike the rest of his techniques, this one is not earned by accumulation of TP. It is given to him by Spekkio at the End of Time, regardless of his level or TP.

Damage calculation[edit | edit source]

Damage = (Level + Magic) * 12 * 3.2 * (1 - Enemy's Magic Defense/102.4) / Enemy's Elemental Defense + Random Range

Trivia[edit | edit source]

The Japanese name for this tech, サンダー sandā "Thunder", was meant to be a reference to the spell of the same name from Final Fantasy.

Description Attack an enemy with lightning.

Similar to Crono's use of Lightning, this also just attacks one enemy. Crono takes less damage from enemy lightning due to his Lightning affiliation. All the other party members take normal damage. Items such as the White Vest can be used to limit or negate all damage taken from enemy lightning.
