Yakra is a boss in Chrono Trigger that appears in Manolia Cathedral during the Middle Ages. He is the first boss in the game. Crono, Lucca, and Frog must beat him to save Queen Leene and the real Chancellor. He is the ancestor of Yakra XIII, who impersonates the Chancellor again in the Present and assaults the party as King Guardia XXXIII stands trial for the apparent theft of the mythic Rainbow Shell.

Story[edit | edit source]

Hidden away in the final room of the Manolia Cathedral, the Chancellor is keeping Queen Leene captive. As Crono, Frog, and Lucca decimate his legion of fiends, en route to rescue the kidnapped royal, it is revealed that Yakra had impersonated the Chancellor, in attempts to infiltrate Guardia Castle and kidnap Leene. After being defeated by the party of time travelers, Yakra disappears, with the real Chancellor emerging from a nearby trunk, where he had been bound and gagged. Upon being freed, the Chancellor recommends the implementation of a justice system in Guardia, which, ironically, turns out to negatively impact Crono, as his return to the Present prompts him to be imprisoned and stand trial for the alleged kidnap of Princess Nadia, the very person he was trying to save.

Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]

Stock up on Potions before entering the battle. For the entire duration of the fight, have Crono and Frog perform X-Strike on Yakra, while Lucca continuously heals the other two party members. Never have Lucca attack Yakra; instead, have her heal whoever Yakra attacks. Otherwise, when he performs the his "Yakra Rumble" move, and all allies are injured, damage output against Yakra will be halted and postponed while the party struggles to heal or revive itself. If healing items are in short supply, switch to having Lucca and Crono perform the Double Tech Fire Whirl, or have Lucca use Flame Toss and have Crono use either Cyclone, Wind Slash, or his basic attacks. For HP rejuvenation, utilize Frog's Slurp tech.
