Son of the Sun is a boss that appears in Chrono Trigger. It can be fought in the Sun Temple during the Future. The five lights that surround it are called Prominence. Before obtaining the Moon Stone, Crono and his companions must defeat the Son of the Sun.

Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]

The Son of the Sun is a strange boss in that you can't defeat it by attacking it directly, because doing so would trigger a Flare counterattack. Instead, the only way to cause damage to it is to attack one of the five flames that surround it; however, four of them will use a flame counterattack. The one that doesn't counter is the flame that will cause damage to the Son of Sun. After a while, though, the Son of Sun will use Roulette Spin, resetting which flame harms it and causing the player to again find the correct flame. Occasionally the Son of Sun will attack with Dark Beam, a shadow based attack but it will cause little damage. The player will recieve a message when the Son of Sun is defeated: "The Son of the Sun is losing his light" (DS version).

You can't strike the Son of the Sun directly, it doesn't matter who you put on the team since strength makes no difference. Magic is useless because the flames absorb all magic and Son of Sun nullifies all magic. The best course of action is to have all characters wear Red/Ruby Armor or Red/Ruby Plates to reduce or absorb fire damage, which will protect you from Flare and Flame Counterattack. In the DS version you can also use Lucca with the Elemental Aegis if she has it, to nullify all magic damage. This way your characters will be practically invincible since neither enemies use any physical attacks.

You can Charm the Son of Sun for a Black Plate and the flames for an Elixir (DS version).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • If Magus is on your team, Black Hole can swallow up 2-3 of the bosses fireballs, making it easier to attack find the right one.
  • The flames have 30000hp each
