Nizbel is a boss that appears in Chrono Trigger at the Reptite Lair in Prehistory that was created by Azala. The creature's high defense lowers under Light Techs. The party must battle him to retrieve the Gate Key and Dreamstone, so they can return to the Present and reforge the Masamune.
Battle and Strategy
Because Reptites are vulnerable to Lightning, Crono should cast this upon Nizbel at the beginning of the battle. After doing so, Nizbel's Defense drops astronomically, leaving it weak to all other attacks. Avoiding this step makes the battle much more difficult, as all Techs and attacks will do little to no damage. Once struck with Lightning, unless powerful dual techs on it. Since Ayla is a mandatory party member for this battle, and her Tech pool is incredibly low at this point in the game, she should alternate between physically attacking Nizbel once its Defense is lowered and using Kiss on party members to recover from Nizbel's powerful Electric Discharge attack. Ideally, Marle should be the third party member present. Constantly cast Ice Sword on Nizbel until he unleashes his strong Electric Discharge attack, then use Aura Whirl to heal all party members. This tactic unleashes large amounts of damage, heals all party members, and frees up Ayla's turns. After Nizbel uses Electric Discharge, its Defense stat rises to its normal height. Cast Lightning on it again and continuously cast Ice Sword. After about five rounds of this, Nizbel will be defeated.
Alternatively, Lucca is useful in this battle. Cast Fire Sword with she and Crono, while leaving the healing to Ayla and Mid-Potions.
Lavos
When the players fight Lavos, it will have the same strength as the bosses you've faced in the past. One of them is Nizbel.
