Rats are enemies in Chrono Trigger. First appearing in Site 16 during the Future, rats scurry between the piled up debris. While never engaging the party in combat, these rats will steal one Potion should they collide with a party member. Once a Potion is stolen, the rats generally disappear from the map until the area is revisited. Beneath the Arris Dome, a Rat poses as a statue on the rafters before the food storage area. Attached to the creature is a memo, warning the player about the Guardian that attacks those who attempt to thieve the food supply. Recovering the seed from the corpse in the storage room, Crono discovers the statue is, in fact, an animate being and must catch it in order to retrieve the password that allows him access to the other subterranean areas of the Dome. Along with the rats found in the Abandoned Sewers, the rats in the following hallways of the underground rooms engage Crono and his friends in battle. Often, they are accompanied by Exterminators in battle, and due to the fogginess of these isolated chambers, the Exterminator occasionally kill the rats, if they move before the player characters do. The Deverminator EX robot of the Geno Dome is likely named after this phenomena.
