The Bao Bao (also known as Winged Ape in the SNES/PS version) is an enemy in Chrono Trigger that first appears in the Forest Maze in Prehistory. He is a big and rotund monster, resembling the body of a modern gorilla. Albeit sharing similar physique they have some differences between them. For one, Bao Bao has white horns and dark-grey wings, and instead of sporting black fur, their fur is beige. Bao Bao skin is grey, which is possible to see in areas that don't have fur like their faces, hands and feet. Their sprite are also similar to that of the Cave Ape and the Fossil Ape.
Battle and Strategy
Since they are big and strong, one of their attacks, Fling, is grabbing the player with his hands and brutally throwing at another one. It deals some good damage, but otherwise it's not a hard enemy when alone. However, when accompanied by other creatures, it is best to kill first since he is the one who deals the most damage in Forest Maze. His Magical Defense is slightly lower than his Physical Defense, so it's advisable to use Magical Techs.
Etymology
Bao Bao has no meaning behind other than how it sounds like a primitive word, like Ugabuga - it was probably chosen because of that.
