Description

Leene Square is a location that appears in the Present near or as a part of the town of Truce, on the West Continent. It currently occupies the location which was once Truce Canyon. At the start of the game, the Millennial Fair has just kicked off, and everyone from Truce (and quite likely Porre as well due to people moving across Zenan Bridge) is out celebrating. Keeping true to the thought that a fair needs to be fun, there are many "side-games" that are able to be played.

Plot Information

Upon entering the area, the player can talk to Melchior, who at this point in the game is considered nothing more than an equipment manufacturer. Crono heads north slightly, to the centerpiece of the square, Leene's Bell. At Leene's Bell, he accidentally bumps into Marle, at which point the bell begins to ring; legend has it that when two people who are fated to meet finally do meet, the bell will ring. Crono checks on Marle to make certain she's okay; he then retrieves her Pendant for her, which was knocked off her when they bumped into each other. They introduce each other, then continue to explore.

After a while, Crono and Marle learn that Lucca's invention is ready at the north end of the square. Heading to the north end of the square (following Marle getting some candy), Crono tries out Lucca's Telepod. Marle wants to try it to, but when she steps on, something goes wrong. Due to the nature of her Pendant, Marle is sucked into a Gate, supposedly caused by an overload of the Teleport. This gate, geographically at the same location as a clearing in 600 A.D., is later reactivated when Crono grabs the Pendant and is set to head off to follow and save Marle.

Sometime later, Lucca travels through the Gate using a Gate Key. After the events in the past, the trio arrive at the Telepod. Lucca goes back home; Crono escorts Marle out of Leene Square and returns her home to Guardia Castle.

Mini Games

Instead of normal money, upon successfully completing a Mini game, you'll get Silver Points. You can hold a maximum of 200 Silver Points at any one time, but you can redeem them for money at the tent immediately northwest of Leene's Bell. This is an easy way to gain money in the first part of the game, if you intend to get the best equipment available at this point.

  • Fighting Gato - You can fight Gato, gaining 10 Experience and 1 Tech Point each time you win. In addition, you'll get 15 Silver Points. Gato is located one screen to the left of Leene's Bell.
  • Chugging Soda - You can "chug" down soda, gaining 5 Silver Points each time you drink 8 cups of soda. This is located on the same screen as Leene's Bell, and is to the southeast of the Bell, down the steps. You can quickly amass 200 Silver Points here using a turbo controller (setting the A button on turbo and holding up so you continually talk to the man to start the game).
  • Racing - The races are on! Between the races, you can pick which one of the four "racers" will win. Doing so gets you an easy 10 points. You can walk in front of characters, slowing them down so the one you picked manages to get ahead. Some non-player characters will suggest possible winners for the next race, though no pattern has emerged on whether any are right (or how often they are right).

Trivia

  • At the start of the game, the shopkeeper who normally tends the store in the building labeled "Market" is in a stall during the Fair. He also has a friend helping him sell armor/items (it is unknown based on sprites which of the two is the shopkeeper himself).
  • Melchior starts the game here. If you return with Marle and talk to Melchior, after you close the shop menu, he'll ask if you could talk Marle into selling her Pendant. Melchior recognizes this Pendant from his previous life in Zeal, though at this point he doesn't say anything regarding it (whether or not he knows what the player will do down the road, such as free him from Mountain of Woe, is unknown, it is likely he is just too dumb founded to know what is happening at this point).
