The Future (未来 Mirai?) is the year 2300 AD in Chrono Trigger.

Story

This is after the apocalypse, and Lavos has destroyed the world. Lavos Spawns are said to have taken over the world, although you do not meet them any other place then Death Peak, and an "Elder Lavos Spawn" form on the Black Omen. There is no existing food source, as all plants died, the atmosphere polluted, blocking the sun's rays, and the soil is too dry and inhabitual to grow in. The last existing humans rely on Enertrons, devices which keep them alive by providing them with a full night's sleep in seconds. It does not, however, help with their hunger.

Also, "spirits" and Robots have mostly taken over the world, and as seen in Geno Dome, are possibly using them for fuel or just to kill them. Mutants have also thrived. This is also the year Belthasar was teleported to. He was depressed by the destructio , and made the Epoch, in hopes of changing the future. When he finished it, he was very old, and so, he copied his memories to a Nu, and waited for the time someone would come and get the Epoch.

1st Visit

When Crono and his companions arrived here, they quickly noticed how bleak the time period was. They eventually find a seed that will help the last surviving humans survive. After learning that Lavos caused the Apocalypse during 1999 A.D, they decide to destroy him to prevent the Apocalypse from happening. After finding a mysterious robot in the Proto Dome, Lucca repairs him, causing the robot (now known as Robo) to join their team. However, when they go inside the Derelict Factory to get back to their own time period, Robo's robotic companions betray him and badly damage him. After defeating Robo's former companions, Crono's team arrives back at 1000 A.D.

2nd Visit

After being sealed out of 12,000 B.C, the heroes return here in order to find the Epoch that will allow them to go back. They learn more information about Lavos and eventually find the Epoch, built by Belthasar, the Guru of Reason. They use the Epoch to return to Zeal.
