Reptite

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Reptites were the first sentient race to evolve in the world of Chrono Trigger. As their name suggests, they are a race of evolved reptiles.

It is known that the human race evolved due to the quantity of Dreamstone in the planet's crust, so it can be assumed that the Reptites may have evolved for the same reason.

Society

During the era of Prehistory, they already have a society at around the same technological level as humans have in 600 AD, if not moreso.

The Reptites are led by their lord, Azala. The center of their society was Tyranno Lair, which sat atop a high mountain in a volcanic mountain chain.

They used other reptilian creatures like Megasaurs, Avian Rex, and Terasaurs as guard-beasts for their lairs.

Physiology

Being reptiles, Reptites are stronger and more hardy than humans. Their tough, scaly skin protects them from dangers. However, they are very sensitive to lightning, which can shock them.

Reptites are cold-blooded, which is why their castle sat amid a chain of volcanoes.

Hunting Humans

The Reptites were always engaged in fights with the fledgling human race. During the course of the game, they burn down the village of Laruba and kidnap many people.

The Coming of Lavos

When Lavos came to the planet, he crashed on the volcanic mountain where Tyranno Lair was. Most of the Reptites on the mountain died in the explosion, although there are a few survivers in the Giant's Claw in 600 AD. Also, the rest outside the base, died from the Ice Age.

Lost Sanctum

The Reptites that live on the Lost Sanctum were imprisoned by Fiends. After all the monsters die, the Reptites are free, they're friendly too. Sometimes they need some favors from the Three Heros.

Ending

One of the twist endings happen when you defeat Lavos after fighting Magus, but before fighting Azala and the Black Tyrano. Since you took Ayla out of prehistoric times, and didn't defeat Azala yourself, then you've changed history in an unexpected way. This ending sequence is exactly the same as the opening of the game (Crono wakes up and goes to the Millennial Fair, bumping into Marle) except for one small fact. Every person is now a reptite. The dino men became the dominant species since Ayla wasn't there to defeat them. Now the only human in the world is in the spot where the green ambler was in the foot race.

Connections in Chrono Cross

The Dragons mentioned in Chrono Cross appear to come from yet another world from the two in the game, one where the Reptites did not become extinct.
