The End Of Time is the core location of the game and as stated in the instruction manual it may possibly be the most important place in the whole game.

The End Of Time acts as a restoration area where the player can get away from the exploring, puzzle solving, battles, etc. It consists simply of 4 parts. A central area, an platform where you can visit 9 different locations via Time Gates. You can go to Truce Canyon, Medina Village, Guardia Forest, Tyran Fortress, Proto Dome, Earthbound Island, Bangor Dome, Mystic Mountain, or Leene Square. There's the back room where one can meet Spekkio, the self proclaimed master of war. Depending on how powerful Crono and his friends are, Spekkio will take on different forms. The last main area is the set of stairs on the right side of the platform which lead to the Epoch once it becomes available. The central area consists of a restoration pool that will fully recover your party's HP and MP, a save point, a tall pillar similar to an old fashioned lamp post, and a bucket that leads to 1999 AD, the day of Lavos. The only other resident here besides Spekkio is an old wise man that sits and mostly sleeps by the lamp post. This man is Gaspar, the Guru Of Time. He will provide the player with advice on where to go, what to do, etc throughout the game.

SPOILER WARNING:

Later in the game, after the events of Crono's death, if the player visits the End Of Time and speaks with Gaspar, they can learn of how to bring Crono back. Gaspar provides the team with the Chrono Trigger(item), an egg capable of bringing back those who have been lost by bringing it and a copy of the person to Death Peak.
