Lavos was first trying to be summoned by Queen Zeal and her daughter, Schala and the three gurus.  However, Janus came in, and Lavos sent the gurus and Janus to different points in time.  Janus was sent to 600 A.D. only to be confronted by Ozzie and 3 blue imps, but he killed the imps using his magic.  Janus was than raised by Ozzie and went under the alias, Magus.  Magus is technically the only enlightened one left.
[[Queen Zeal]] and her three gurus, [[Belthasar]], [[Melchior]] and [[Gaspar]], attempted to summon [[Lavos]] to obtain greater power from it.  However, they were unable to control Lavos.  The three gurus, as well as the [[Magus|prince]] and [[Schala|princess]] of Zeal, were absorbed into time portals created by Lavos and send to various eras.  The Kingdom of Zeal was destroyed by the unrestrained power of Lavos and sank to the bottom of the sea.  Queen Zeal herself survived, somehow gaining tremendous power from Lavos despite the disaster, and her warship the [[Black Omen]] was isolated outside of the flow of time and hung in the air above the earth for eons.  She was eventually defeated by [[Crono]].


Also, Crono and his friends stumbled into the "End of Time" (or year infinite) and came across Spekkio.  He explained that humans once possessed magic (aka the enlightened ones), but were wiped out due to their abuse of their magic.  However, Crono, Lucca, Marle, and Frog (or Glenn) were descendants of the enlightened ones and had magic from within, and were able to realize once Spekkio revealed it and taught it to them.  Crono was capable of light, Lucca of fire, Marle of ice, and Frog of water.  Robo and Ayla were not able to use magic because Robo was not human, and Ayla was born long before magic was discovered.  However, Robo's laser weapons used shadow damage which is similar to shadow magic, and Ayla was noted to being strong and had abilities just as useful as magic.  If the player decided to spare Magus, and he was brought to Spekkio, he will explain that Magus already possesses magic and could probably teach Spekkio a thing or two, and explains that Magus can use Shadow Magic (as well as Lightning II, Ice II, and Fire II).
Humans after the fall of Zeal were unable to tap into the power of Lavos and so became unable to wield magic.  However, gifted individuals such as [[Spekkio]] are able to release their latent power and allow them to access magic once again.

The Kingdom of Zeal was a nation in the Antiquity. It was home to the Enlightened Ones, and was the center of art, culture, technology, and most of all, magic.

History

Creation

The Kingdom of Zeal was created when mankind discovered magic. What was soon discovered is that some people, no matter what happened or how they tried, were completely unable to use magic. The ruler of Zeal was given the name Zeal.

Rising

Around the time of the last Ice Age, the people of Zeal - using their advanced technology and magic - lifted the whole kingdom off of the earth. The islands of Zeal floated above the dense cloud cover that kept the planet shrouded in eternal blizzard. The non-magic-using people were left behind, being dubbed the Earthbound Ones.

Destruction

It was first mentioned by Spekkio that humans once possessed magic, but lost it because of abusing it. It is later discovered that the enlightened ones (the humans who could use magic) tried controlling Lavos, but it was beyond their control, and it destroyed the Kingdom of Zeal, and the enlightened ones. However, some did survive, but they lost their power, and had to live with the earthbound ones (the humans who could not use magic).

Legacy
