The cytoplasm is a small gel-like substance residing between the cell membrane holding all the cell's internal sub-structures (called organelles), except for the nucleus. In this case, the Cytoplasm enemy is originally a vital cell of the TerraTerror before it is squeezed out into battle. As such, the name is a befitting one.

The Japanese name of the Cytoplasm, ''NaCl'', in Chemistry terms, simply means ''Sodium Chloride''. Sodium chloride is the salt most responsible for the extracellular fluid of many multicellular organisms. As the Cytoplasm's innate color is blue, this hints that it may actually have been the 'extracellular fluid' of the TerraTerror.
