Optional Event
There is an optional event which takes place as a side-quest to a side-quest, for lack of a better explanation. At the end of the side-quest for Fiona's Shrine, when the party has recovered Robo after four hundred years, the party is shown sitting around a campfire discussing all the events that have occurred up to the current moment. The discussion turns to Robo's thought that an entity wanted the party to see everything they've witnessed; later that night, when the group is asleep, Lucca awakes to a noise, and witnesses a red gate. (Although there is no evidence to suggest this, many discussion boards suggest the entity was giving a sort of "thank you" to the group, allowing Lucca a chance to revisit the event.)

Traveling through the red gate, Lucca arrives ten years prior, according to some journal entries she finds. When she opens the door to the main room, she realizes it's the same day that her mother became crippled. A timed event begins once Lara becomes trapped by the machine; the player has a few short seconds to input into the machine the code created by Taban (who, being a loving husband, made it his wife's name). No direction is given to the player on how to input the code, only that the code is Lara's name. In order to imput the code, the player must utilize the letters of the controller, being L A R A. Hence the code would be L button, A, right button, A

If the player successfully stops the machine before Lara is injured, a few changes are made to the remainder of the game (and in some ending sequences, depending on the ending). First off, the player is rewarded with an accessory named Green Dream, which, similar to the event, gives a chance to save a player from death. However, the more readily visible change is that Lara is no longer confined to a wheelchair; she freely moves about Lucca's House, never having been crippled due to the alteration to the timeline.
