'''Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes''' is a fan-made game that was originally set for release on May 31st, 2009. Work for it began in 2004. However, on May 8th, 2009, Square Enix sent out a [[cease and desist]] letter to Chrono Compendium.

The game was meant to be an interquel between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross.
Currently, the group members of the project have begun "The Month That Could Have Been" starting May 31st. To read more about the Crimson Echoes discontinuation and basic information, it is recommended you visits the site by ZeaLitY, one of the game's creators. [http://crimsonechoes.com/]
However, despite the game being cancelled, 98 percent of the beta game has been completed and leaked online and can still be played from website Rom Hacks, or from a homebrew Super Nintendo cartridge of the game thorough the use of Retroarch on the Gamebox 128 USB drive for the PlayStation Classic Mini console, or on downloaded on the SD Memory card with Retropie for the Raspberry Pi 3, 4 console.
Also, an updated game called Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity is basically the same game with some changes from Crimson Echoes version including arranged music scores, a new animation opening which is unskippable, Glenn is now a human instead of an anthropomorphic frog, some of the text has been changed, The Magic Techs for Magus and other party members has been changed back to the spells featured in Chrono Trigger, the Coliseum arena in hard mode has replaced the original enemies for example the 3 Nus have been replaced with Naga-Ni and other enemies. The shopping mall in 2305 AD sells different wares.

Playthroughs of the 'alpha' version of Crimson Echoes are being released via a YouTube account. Since fans cannot play the game this is considered the next best thing.
In honor of the "Month That Could Have Been," the developers of ''Crimson Echoes'' produced a video walkthrough of their '98% beta, the version being worked on when Square-Enix issued the C&D, complete with director commentary. It can be viewed on YouTube on the user page of [http://www.youtube.com/user/CEMemorial CEMemorial] or by going directly to the [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abUSev5e2Is&feature=PlayList&p=E952926C2A6E7039 playlist].
