The dodo was a flightless bird endemic to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius. They became extinct in 1681, due to being killed by hungry sailors or their domesticated animals. The name of the Dodo enemy thus makes sense, as it mainly resides in Fossil Valley, a location where Draggy's mother passed away eons before the events of the game, supposedly marking the end of her kind.

The Japanese name of the Dodo, ''Niwatorisu'', is a portmanteau of the Japanese words ニワトリ (''niwatori'', chicken) and コカトリス (''kokatorisu'', [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockatrice cockatrice]). This could be a play on the fact that a Dodo is known to care for an egg that does not belong to it (specifically Draggy's), implying that like real-life hens, Dodos are motherly and homely.
The Japanese name of the Dodo, ''Niwatorisu'', basically means ''chickens'' in said language. This could be a play on the fact that a Dodo is known to care for an egg that does not belong to it (specifically Draggy's), implying that like real-life hens, Dodos are motherly and homely.
