After the incident of the {{CE|Ocean Palace}}, Schala transports {{CE|Crono}}'s friends to {{CE|First Village}}; and after they succeed in defeating [[Lavos]], she is assumed dead or missing. When Crono returns to the Ocean Palace in search of a disturbance detected by {{CE|Belthasar}}, they learn that {{CE|King Zeal}} has reawoken Schala so that she may play a role in his devilish scheme. Freed from {{CE|Dalton}}'s barrier by her voice, {{CE|Magus}} travels to the Ocean Palace, battles his father, and travels back to {{CE|Chronopolis}} with {{CE|Lucca}} to check on Schala, who was previously rescued by Crono and {{CE|Marle}}. Schala rests in the [[Enertron]]-like machines present there and is reunited with Magus. At first, she does not recognize him but quickly picks up on his identity as her little brother, Janus, through his aura. While astounded by his seemingly sped-up aging, she allows him a chance to explain the events that led up to her resurrection.
