The name of this enemy, Centaurpede, is a play on the words ''Centaur'' and ''Centipede''. In Greek mythology, centaurs are often depicted as being part-human, part-horse, with the former possessing a strong, muscular body. This befits Centaurpedes rather well, as said creatures are known to be rather formidable foes to even adequately-leveled characters. Centipedes, on the other hand, are elongated metameric animals with one pair of legs per body segment. Centaurpedes have bodies which closely resemble that of centipedes, and as such, the inclusion of the suffix '-pede' is a befitting one indeed.

The Japanese name of the Centaurpede, ''Centi'', on the other hand, merely refers to said creature's striking resemblance to centipedes.
