The Centaurpede is an enemy appearing in Chrono Cross. Centaurpedes take on the appearance of an over-sized insect of sorts, with the exception that it possesses four legs and not six. Their bodies are covered in spikes, and their teeth are visible, gathering in a ring at the spot where its mouthparts are meant to be. Centaurpedes also have a pair of lengthy feelers and three tails, all of which are topped with intimidating-looking spikes. Found solely in the Hydra Marshes, Centaurpedes prowl about in various nooks and crannies in said location.

Battle and Strategy
Centaurpedes usually appear alone or in groups of two, but they may also appear in threes or fours, albeit rather infrequently. They mainly use their feelers as weapons, which they use to whip their foes with. They are known to use a small range of Yellow elements, specifically that of Earthquake, which they use rather frequently when the field color is completely yellow. They may, rather frequently, use GiddyBreath on selected targets as well, which may inflict the Dizzy status effect if successful. They are also known to cast ☆Golem when the field color is yellow, so it would be a good idea to set out the ↓Golem trap as soon as possible.

Name Origin
The name of this enemy, Centaurpede, is a play on the words Centaur and Centipede. In Greek mythology, centaurs are often depicted as being part-human, part-horse, with the former possessing a strong, muscular body. This befits Centaurpedes rather well, as said creatures are known to be rather formidable foes to even adequately-leveled characters. Centipedes, on the other hand, are elongated metameric animals with one pair of legs per body segment. Centaurpedes have bodies which closely resemble that of centipedes, and as such, the inclusion of the suffix '-pede' is a befitting one indeed.

On the other hand, the Japanese name of the Centaurpede, Centi, merely refers to said creature's striking resemblance to centipedes.
