Wraith

Japanese Name ライフレス (raifuresu lit. Lifeless)
Type Zombie
Doppelgang Yes (Default)

Wraith is an enemy appearing in Chrono Cross. Mantled in tattered cloth, the Lifeless are ghosts that wander the Shadow Forest, Hydra Marshes (Another World) and the S.S. Invincible.

It is worth noting that there are two separate versions of the Wraith found in the S.S. Invincible. They have slightly different stats and have different rare drops as well as different steals (both common and rare).

There is also an unused version which does not appear in game but does appear within the game's code and the Brady Games guide - see section below for more details.

Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]

Wraith appear either alone, or in groups of 2 or 4, and generally accompany Crossbones or Tzetze Flies. Wraithes are known to use a range of fairly potent Black elements on their foes, such as AntiWhite (renders party member unable to cast White spells for a set period of time), HellSoul (can instantly kill a party member), and DarkMist (inflicts Darkness). It is a very slow monster however, so try to defeat them before they have the opportunity to attack.

Unused Version Info[edit | edit source]

There is an unused version of this enemy which does not appear in game but does appear within the game's code and the Brady Games guide. They apparently dropped the unused armor Ghetz's Shirt and were supposed to appear in Shadow Forest in Home World (the Wraith does appear in Home World's Shadow Forest in the final version of the game, but they are the same as the one found in Another World's Shadow Forest). This version of the monster is not mentioned in the official Chrono Cross Ultimania strategy guide released in Japan. This version of the enemy, despite being unused, is nevertheless listed in the infobox to the right.
