The Mossback (also known as Shitake in the SNES/PS version) is an enemy in Chrono Trigger. It appears in the Reptite Lair during Prehistory. Mossbacks appear as quadrupedal creatures with mushrooms on their backs.
Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]
Often accompanied by Winged Apes, Mossbacks remain relatively inert during battle. If a Winged Ape is present, it will pick up the Mossback and toss it at a party member.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The mushroom structure atop the backs of these creatures are green, and moss is typically the same color. Additionally, the SNES name, Shitake stems from a mushroom called Shiitake.
