Miguel (ミゲル?) is a boss fought in Chrono Cross.

Story

Miguel is the ill-fated father of Leena and friend of Wazuki. His origin unclear, he married and settled in Arni, fathering Leena and serving as a good friend to Serge's family. When Serge was bitten by a panther demon in 1006 A.D., Miguel accompanied Wazuki on his quest for the medicine of Marbule. After they were blown off course, Miguel expressed serious reservations about entering Chronopolis. Wazuki insisted, and Miguel followed to the Frozen Flame. Though Wazuki and Serge escaped the resulting chaos as Chronopolis's defense systems reactivated with the passing of Schala's magnetic storm, Miguel was not so lucky, and was held prisoner for four years. When the dimensions split, the Home World version of him died with the appearance of the Dead Sea; FATE subsequently stationed the version of him in Another World as a guard to protect the Frozen Flame at the core of the Dead Sea. There, he waited ten years in the frozen world.

He was relieved at last when Serge arrived to take the Flame; Miguel, as its guardian, was forced to fight him, but was able to evoke Serge's sincerest will to solve the riddle of his life. As he lay defeated, he encouraged Serge on his journey, and was soon consumed by the destruction of the Dead Sea by FATE.

Battle and Strategy

Miguel's Attacks and Elements

Often considered one of the hardest bosses in the game (if not the hardest), Miguel possesses extremely powerful physical and elemental attacks, as well as strong support magic.

He uses the white element PhotonBeam for a fair amount of damage to a single character, and uses the support magic TurnBlack, WeakMinded, StrongMinded and AntiBlack (all of which are White elemental).

His most deadly attack for most of this battle, however, is his HolyDragSwd, which does an extremely high amunt of White Element damage to a single target. The HolyDragSwd will often kill a character in a single swoop if no buffs or debuffs are used, particularly Lynx and Harle due to them being Black innates.

When he runs low on HP, he will always use the powerful MeteorShower, and then after a brief lull in activity will unleash HolyLight, both of which do large amounts of White elemental damage to all party members (particularly the latter). HolyLight can be Trapped, so if you have a trap HolyLight element in your posession, it is highly recommended to use it in this battle, both to completely nullify this powerful spell and to add it to your spell list.

Defeating Miguel

To defeat Miguel, while it may be tempting to focus on aggressively unleashing powerful black elements with Lynx (and Harle if she is in the party), the safest way to defeat this boss is to use Diminish together with WeakMinded. This will greatly reduce Miguel's magic attack, and thus, the potency of his deadly HolyDragSwd (as well as MeteorShower and HolyLight). Using StrongMinded on Lynx or Harle can be done to increase their magic defenses even further, though this probably won't be necessary. From here, focus on physical attacks and keeping HP high by healing, occasionally using Elements to prevent the Elemental Field in the upper left corner from becoming all white (good options for the latter are the Red elemental Strengthen to buff physical attack power and the Green elemental EagleEye to buff accuracy, as well as Blue and Green Healing Elements like CurePlus and HealAll)

Be warned that since Diminish is a black element, it is vulnerable to AntiBlack (which makes a character unable to use Black elements for a set amount of time), so try to use it early in the battle if you are going to use it (alternatively, have Daemon Charms equipped to prevent Anti-Black).

Lastly, when using white elements like RecoverAll, WeakMinded and StrongMinded, be mindful of the Elemental grid in the upper left corner - be careful not to make the grid all white if you think Miguel is about to use HolyDragSwd (or MeteorShower + HolyLight).
