Crested Sprinter (also known as Runner in the SNES/PS version) is an enemy in Chrono Trigger. First appearing in Mystic Mountains in Prehistory, Crested Sprinters share the same sprite as Aecytonyx, who appears in Giant's Claw during the sidequest for the Rainbow Shell. Yellow and small, they sport long tails and a big horn in their head that can be used to trust into their enemy and cause damage.

Battle and Strategy[edit | edit source]

Generally appearing in groups of three or four, Crested Sprinters run at incredibly fast speeds, up and down the narrow aisle of Mystic Mountain's canyon. Normally battles against them are unavoidable as they band together in nets to prevent evasion. Additionally, they are best battled for the Horns that they drop. These items can considered forms of currency in Ioka Village Hut, where they can be traded for valuable weapons and armor, such as the Dreamstone Gun or Ruby Vests.

In battle, they frequently use the tech, Stomp.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Crested indicates the horned crest that sits atop their heads, while Sprinter indicates their ability to run at fast speeds. Additionally, these creatures resemble Hadrosaurs, which run at high velocities and share similar cranial plumage.
