— Azala

Azala is a boss in Chrono Trigger that appears in the Tyranno Lair in Prehistory. Despite much controversy and debate, Azala's gender is confirmed to be female in Chrono Trigger (DS).

She is also leader of the Reptites and wants them to rule the world. She controls Nizbel, Nizbel II and Black Tyranno. She stole the Gate Key from Kino, who had already stolen it from Lucca when the heroes were looking for the Dreamstone to repair the Masamune.

After she is defeated, she states that the red star seen in the sky (Lavos) will fall down and wipe the dinosaurs out and that the earth will get cold. The party offers to rescue her, but she declines their offers and tells them to look after the planet. She is later killed when Lavos lands on the Tyranno Lair.

Lavos

When the players fight Lavos, it will have the same strength as the bosses you have faced in the past. One of them is Azala (and Black Tyranno).

Chrono Cross

In the Lavos-less Reptite Dimension, Azala probably led the Reptites to victory over the humans.

Etymology

Azala is likely a portmanteau of "A" and "Zilla". Similar phonetically to Azriel, the Reptite Queen could be named after the Angel of Death who bears that name.
