Taurusoid is a boss appearing in Chrono Cross. Appearing as a colossal robotic Taurus, this creature guards the Green Crystal in Another World's Fort Dragonia.

Strategy and Battle[edit | edit source]

Due to this enemies high Defense stat and low Magic Defense stat, it is advisable to cast Elements frequently during this battle. Start by attacking with level 1 physical attacks, as Taurusoid's Evasion is incredibly high, causing attacks with a Hit Percent of lower than 80% to miss each time. After building the grid element levels of the characters present, cast a Debuff spell that reduces evasion, such as Numble, or a Buff that raises Hit Percent (EagleEye) on a character with low Accuracy, such as Luccia or Guile. Once this has been completed, cast the strongest Techs in the party's arsenal first. Ensure that the Techs used are not Yellow Innate. While Taurusoid is vulnerable to Yellow Elements, it counters each one with a HealAll spell that restores upward of 75 Hit Points per cast. Additionally, avoid having a Field Effect multiplier, as this causes Taurusoid to use its powerful Techs more frequently. Suggested Techs to use are Luminaire, RedPin, and Pin-UpGirl. To increase damage done by such Techs, one can cast Genius on a single party member beforehand.

Keep the Hit Points of each party member above 200, which, at this point in the plot, should be near the maximum number allotted. Taurusoid will use powerful, one-targeted Techs such as ChokeSlam, BackDrop, and BodyPress in battle. Occasionally, this cybernetic bull performs these moves several times in a row, causing the Field Effect to switch fully to Green, giving his additional moves and healing spells bonuses. Immediately cast an Element after the Field Effect turns Green, even if the Element is weak or unneeded. Normally, Taurusoid's Techs deal a meager 70 damage, but with the modifier, they deal upwards of 170 damage, knocking out a character in two moves. Rarely will Taurusoid use normal physical attacks, but when it does, it hits the target between 2 and 3 times in a row for around 35 damage, which can also be lethal. As a final note: switch between healing and attacking every other turn, and never use Yellow Elements.

Etymology[edit | edit source]

Taurus is a a zodiacal constellation that contains Pleiades and Hyades and is represented pictorially by a bull's forequarters. Since this boss bears the horns of a bull, the inclusion of this zodiac sign is appropriate. Also, the suffix -oid means "similar to" or "like" something else, which denotes the half-bull, half-robot physiology of this creature. -Oid is also commonly used to describe robotic lifeforms.
